Your Mom!
So I was reminded of something the other day when I was using the bathroom. I looked to my right and saw a funny message that made me think of my mom. Yes, this message was written on the bathroom wall in my separated garage by my sweet wife, who is always the creative and fun spirit.
But you know what, it got me thinking. First - that Rachelle is crazy. Second - wondering if I should paint over her graffiti. And finally - about my mom. I haven't really spent time thinking about her like I should lately. I've got all the appropriate excuses, but none of them are good reasons. Life gets busy, from work to hobbies, family, children, and weddings. But I rarely take time to think of where it all began. My mom.
Without her where would I be? Of course there's the obvious, floating around somewhere as a soul waiting for a body to inhabit, and not yet enjoying this time on earth.
But there's much more than that. My mom has been a major part of who I've become as a man. Through the toughest adversities you could possibly imagine, my mother has been here as a supporting figure. Encouraging me from infancy, through childhood and all of its struggles, to adulthood with her never ending love.
She has been the one consistent support figure throughout my life. No matter how many mistakes I've made, and I've made a few for sure, she's been behind me telling me that everything's gonna be OK and that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to.
And you know what, I believed her.
I know the greatest gift parents can give their children is the gift of self belief. My mother sure blessed me with that gift. But how often do I thank her for that? Or spend time with her? Absolutely not enough. And I know the best gift I could give her for Christmas is my time.
So guess what I'm doing next week for her Christmas present? I'm taking my mom on a three day trip where she and I can just talk and enjoy Christmas lights together. It's a long overdue trip, and one that I think I should repeat every year with her. After all, neither one of us is getting any younger.
So, as this holiday approaches, I encourage you to think of your family and some unique gifts that you could give rather than those that are store-bought.
Now let me ask you, when is the last time you spent significant time with - "your mom"?!
